PERSONALITY OF THE DAY: PAT UTOMI

Patrick Okedinachi Utomi who was born in February 6, 1956 happens to be a Nigerian-based professor of political economy; he is also a management expert. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria, he also contested for the seat of the Nigerian presidency.

 A man who has a heart in line with the dignity of the individual personality and the mind of entrepreneurship. He is the originator of Centre for Value in Leadership (CVL), he however hails from the African Democratic Congress party.

 He teaches and is a professor at Lagos Business School,  He has been in major coveted posts in government, having bieng an adviser to the president of Nigeria, the not so public sector, even as a Chief Operating beaurecrat for Volkswagen of Nigeria.

Patrick Utomi was born inside the ancient town of Kaduna, Kaduna State. he is a descendant of Igbuzo in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. He went to primary school at St. Thomas, Kano from the year 1960 to 1962; to Our Lady of Fatima, Gusau from year 1962 to 1966; also Christ the King College, Onitsha and Loyola Jesuit College, Ibadan, concluding his high school education towards the tender age of fifteen at a time when the acceptable age in every university for tertiary education was 17, so he registered at the Federal School of Arts and Science in the interim.

He nevertheless afterwards was admitted into the University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka towards the year 1973 to read Mass Communication. Patrick Utomi got out with a degree from university of Nigeria Nsuka in 1977 and He went straight ahead to Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA and got his Ph.D. MPA, MA and he was Dubbed professor of the Social and Political Economy Environment of Business and Pioneer Entrepreneurship Teacher at Lagos Business School in 2003.

He has been serving as a brilliant scholar-in-residence at the Harvard Business School and the American University in Washington, D.C.

In a short while after his arrival in Nigeria from Bloomington, Indiana, United States from doing graduate studies, Utomi got short-listed by the ex- vice-president Alex Ekwueme to make available consultancy on a number of communal guideline documents.

Shortly after, he was chosen to be Special Assistant by ex- president Shehu Shagari a post he forfeited as a result of the military revolution that happened in December 1983, which brought an end to the reign of the Second Republic .

After the death of the Second Republic, he clocked in as chairman and chief executive officer(CEO), Utomapp Holdings Limited from the year 1984 to 1986,and doubled as assistant general manager, corporate affairs, Volkswagen of Nigeria Limited, Lagos from 1983-1993.

He furthermore is associated with Lots of many Expert Bodies. He is an associate, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, Institute of Directors, IOD, Nigeria Economic Summit Group and Nigeria Economic Society.

He oversaw the creation of various civil society organisations on profitable governance and credibility some of which are Transparency in Nigeria, the Centre for Values in Leadership, the Concerned Professionals, and the Restoration Group and so on.  In the business world, Utomi happened to be the vice-chairman, Platinum–Habib Bank.

Utomi also ran a failed attempt for presidency of Nigeria in 2011.

Today marks popular comedian and singer, Julius Agwu's birthday. Given birth to in April 7, 1973, Julius Agwu is known as a stand up comedian, musician and actor who was born to Chief Augustine Amadi Agwu and Mrs Mary Agwu.
